Our ECK Rite of Passage Journey
By Liz Mallett
A few years ago, my husband and I celebrated the ECK Rite of Passage with our two children in a joint ceremony. It was extra special for me because I performed the ceremony as a member of the ECK clergy.
The journey began after we moved to a new town and the children were no longer able to attend their youth Satsang. Inspired by Harji’s account of having a Satsang with his daughter in the evening, we decided to begin a family Satsang. We felt spending this time together would help us through that time of change.
Each night, we read a page or two from one of the youth discourses or picked a question from Youth Ask a Modern Prophet about Life, Love, and God. We’d discuss what we read and do a spiritual exercise. Sometimes, if a challenge had come up at school, we’d use the time to seek guidance from the Inner Master. Other times, we just sang HU. Even a short time together was beneficial and helped us decompress and reconnect with the MAHANTA and each other.
Eventually, we connected with other families and started an online ECK Rite of Passage class for youth across the UK to study The ECK Rite of Passage Youth Study Guide. For me, as the Arahata, it was inspiring to see them realize they can reach for God-Realization in this lifetime—that they are in training to be ECK Masters!
Our son and daughter chose to have their ECK Rite of Passage ceremony at home in our garden. Even one of our little cats joined us, putting her paw on my foot as I read from The ECK Rite of Passage.
It was a truly beautiful occasion, filled with gratitude for the MAHANTA and for what the ECK teachings have given our family.
